Lesions of the skin in process workers caused by contact with butyl tin compounds.

چکیده
The industrial production of alkyl tin derivatives has increased rapidly in recent years, but little is known about the hazards to man which may exist in the handling of these substances. Interest in the matter has been sharpened by the catastrophic results of a therapeutic trial of one of the group, diethyl tin di-iodide, in the treatment of furunculosis. The compound was given orally and caused the death of 102 persons, cerebral oedema being found at necropsy (British Medical Journal, 1958). Many of those who survived were left with paraplegia or other permanent neurological damage. As far as experimental work on animals is concerned, interstitial oedema of the white matter of the brain and cord was found by Magee, Stoner, and Barnes (1957) in rats poisoned by certain triethyl tin compounds. Stoner, Barnes, and Duff (1955) studied the toxicity of a number of alkyl tin derivatives for several species, and advised caution in the handling of organo-tin compounds, particularly of the ethyl series, because of the effect these substances had upon the central nervous system. Barnes and Stoner (1958) showed that repeated application of dibutyl tin dichloride to the skin of the rat damaged not only the skin but also the biliary tract, proving that the compound was being absorbed percutaneously.

متن کاملToxicity and health effects of selected organotin compounds: a review.
The toxicity of selected tin compounds is reviewed. Over the years, a variety of uses has been found for organic and inorganic tin compounds, as fungicides, as stablizers in plastics, moluscicides, and miticides; they have also been suggested as insect chemosterilants and for other industrial uses. Many of these products are unpalatable when mixed into diets and have been suggested as rodent re...
متن کاملAssessment of Electrospinning Antioxidant Nanofibers in Skin Exposure to Oxidative Stress
Background and purpose: Some skin injuries are caused by occupational skin exposures that are resulted from production of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress (ROS). Thus, protecting the skin is a key issue. Recently, several surveys have introduced novel alternatives such as nanofibers for skin protection. In this research, Poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/gelatin (Gt)/ Vitamin E (VE) was i...
متن کاملInvestigation of the electrical properties and corrosion resistance of TiN coating deposited by reactive sputtering on the titanium bipolar plate, used in polymeric fuel cell
The effect of titanium nitride film on the properties of titanium bipolar plates used in polymeric fuel cell was investigated in this research. TiN coatings was deposited on the Ti-grade 1 substrate by using DC-sputtering method. Pure titanium was used as target and coating deposition was done in argon and nitrogen atmosphere. Different TiN thickness was developed by changing sputtering time. T...
